Gary Driscoll to join us on Wed 27th Sept 2017

The Railway Swing Band will be presenting a rather exciting concert in the Tower Theatre, Shornecliff, Folkestone on behalf of the RAFA Association Hythe and Romney Marsh  Branch In Aid of The Wings Appeal Charity on Wednesday 27th September.

Exciting, because it departs from the normal concert by including a string section called The Impromtu Ensemble, a very talented group of musicians who will greatly enhance the sound of the big band much like the arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and the Proms performances by the John Wilson Orchestra. If  that is not enough to whet your appetite, our resident vocalist, Didi, will be joined by the talented international vocalist Gary Driscoll.

Gary’s credits include BBC One “Tonight’s the Night” hosted by John Barrowman in 2010 where he performs “The Way You Look Tonight”. also BBC Two The Hairy Bikers’ “The Pubs That Built Britain” in the East End of London. Gary tells the story of him being requested to sing at the funeral of London gangster Reggie  Kray. Also the feature film “The Wee Man” where Gary appears in a cameo role as the pub singer based on the true life story of Glasgow gangster Paul Ferris. See Gary’s web site at http://www.garydriscoll.co.uk/index.htm.

We understand that tickets for this concert are selling very fast so book now. To book tickets: http://www.towertheatrefolkestone.co.uk/event/the-railway-swing-band-2/

2017 is off to a great start

We have been back to rehearsals since the first week in January, having great fun going through our library of music that we have collected over the last 25 years. We are bringing out some old favourites and have weaved some new numbers in too which we can’t wait to share with you at your first concert this year.
